Writing
This page is about the writing itself — what I write about, and how the pieces here usually start.
What I write about
Almost everything on this site sorts into a handful of recurring subjects: habits, movement, rest & sleep, and everyday calm, plus the ordinary rituals — mornings, evenings, a notebook, a phone — that hold those bigger ideas together day to day. I'd rather go deep on a small number of ordinary themes than range widely and shallowly across everything wellness could mean.
How an essay starts
Most pieces start the same unglamorous way: a small, specific observation about something that changed how an ordinary day felt, tried quietly and repeatedly before it ever became a page. I try not to write about a habit I haven't actually lived with for a while — theory is easy; the honest, slightly boring truth of practicing something is harder, and more useful.
The themes I keep returning to
Sustainability over intensity, kindness over discipline, fundamentals over trends — the same handful of ideas, applied to sleep one week and to a phone habit the next. See the philosophy for the fullest version of the thinking underneath all of it.
Where to find more
New pieces are added slowly and occasionally rather than on a fixed schedule — see the newsletter for how that occasional rhythm is described, and the FAQ for quick answers to the questions people ask most about the site itself.
